Laminar Flow Cabinets
Laminar flow chambers create a particle-free work environment using HEPA-filtered air. They are used in pharmaceutical compounding, medical device assembly, laboratory work, and any application where airborne contamination must be eliminated.
How They Work
Air enters the unit and passes through a pre-filter to remove large particles. It then passes through a HEPA filter, removing 99.99% of particles larger than 0.3 microns. The filtered air flows across the work surface in a single, uniform direction — preventing contamination from re-entering the workspace.
Horizontal vs. Vertical Flow
Horizontal flow units direct filtered air from back to front across the work surface. Vertical flow units direct air downward from above. The choice depends on the application and the size of the product being handled.
Applications
- Pharmaceutical compounding and sterile drug preparation
- Medical device handling and assembly
- Electronics manufacturing — sensitive component assembly
- Laboratory work — cell cultures and biological samples
- Food processing — clean-zone packaging
Important: Laminar flow chambers protect the work from contamination. They do not protect the operator from hazardous materials. For operator protection, a biological safety cabinet is required.
