Vacuum Packers

A vacuum packer pulls the air out before it seals, so food keeps longer and packs tighter. The real choice is the machine type: a chamber machine for wet food and volume, or an external sealer for dry goods and lower throughput. We've sold, serviced and repaired vacuum machines since 2001, so here's the honest guide.

Vacuum packing machine FAQs

The questions we get asked most about vacuum packers, answered straight. Still weighing it up? Tell us what you pack and how much you run, and we'll point you at the right machine.

What does a vacuum packer do for a commercial kitchen or production line?

It pulls the air out of the bag before sealing, which slows the spoilage and oxidation that air causes. In practice that means longer shelf life, less waste, tidier portioning and prep-ahead, and bags ready for sous vide. For most food businesses it pays for itself in reduced waste and longer sell-by windows.

Chamber or external sealer, which type do I need?

Chamber machines drop the whole bag inside and pull a full vacuum, so they handle liquids, soups and raw meat, and run all day. Probe (nozzle) sealers draw the air through a nozzle that goes into the bag neck, which suits long or awkward items a chamber can't take, plus gas-flush (MAP) work. Most food lines run chamber; nozzle machines cover the oversized and specialist jobs. Chamber machines · probe & nozzle sealers

How much longer does vacuum packing make food last?

It depends on the product and your chilling, but vacuum packing typically extends fridge life by three to five times against the same food wrapped or boxed. Cooked meats, cheese and fish hold colour and moisture far longer. It slows spoilage, it does not replace refrigeration, so keep packed fresh food chilled.

How much does a commercial vacuum packing machine cost?

External and suction sealers start in the low hundreds for bench use. Chamber machines start around £1,549 ex VAT for a benchtop and run to £10,000-plus for floor-standing double-chamber production models. Price tracks vacuum depth, seal length, pump capacity and duty cycle. Tell us your throughput and we'll point you at the smallest machine that keeps up. See chamber machines

What should you not vacuum pack?

Vacuum packing slows spoilage, it does not sterilise. Low-acid fresh items like garlic, mushrooms and soft herbs can encourage anaerobic bacteria, including Clostridium botulinum, if they sit at room temperature, so keep vacuum-packed fresh food chilled and follow your HACCP plan. Very soft or sharp items can pierce the bag, so box them first.

What bags or pouches do I need?

Chamber machines use smooth, co-extruded pouches; external sealers use textured or embossed bags that let the air channel out. The two are not interchangeable. Smooth chamber pouches cost less per bag, which adds up on volume. We supply both types in standard and custom sizes to match your machine.

Do you sell domestic machines, or only commercial?

We focus on commercial machines built for daily use, from benchtop chambers up to production lines. They cost more than a supermarket vacuum sealer, and they last years rather than months under real load. Running a small deli or farm shop? A benchtop chamber is usually the right entry point, and we'll tell you if you don't need to spend more.

Are they repairable, and do you supply parts and bags?

Yes. The wear parts are the seal bar, the Teflon, the pump oil and the gaskets, all consumable and quick to swap. We stock spares, pump oil and pouches, and repair our own-brand machines in our Solihull workshop. Buying from a supplier who carries parts and bags is what keeps a vacuum packer running for years.
